STEP FOUR — Capturing Your Story
This is a key time in the product – capturing you in your words. The video shoot will be scheduled.
- A discussion on how the process will work
- Location is locked down. Typically at a place that will complement the Legacy
- The capture can also be done in a studio environment, sometimes another location is selected
The setting needs to complement the process – but not become the story.
The Video Setting and the Goals
The goals during this process is to tell your story. Sometime props are used and needed, often not. The capture will include a mic underneath your clothing, but close to your chin as possible. Often LED lights are used to illuminate the room and setting. Sometimes a deep mood is needed, often a very upbeat clean lighting is uplifting. If there is drama in your story – the lighting may complement that mood.
The Elements that Help Make a Good Story Presentation
Some of the key items include:
- Keep the clothing neutral, monochromatic, or monochromatic pattern can be used. Have a couple choices or provide a picture of something you may desire.
- Be yourself, keep your hair from looking like it just got cut, if you wear makeup – keep it clean and simple unless a statement is being made.
- The video is often head and shoulder, or waist up. Sometimes other positions are desired depending on the room and your desires
We will review the process before the shoot. Keep in min, the Legacy is about you. The video will be edited so that he person interviewing is not in the shot, or questions heard. We like the production to be about you. Interaction and coaching may occur during the shoot. Suggestions may be made. They will be removed and not a part of your Legacy. When talking – practice now the following. Say things like:
- My name is…
- I want to tell you a story…
- I remember when…
- My Family is from…
- Someone asked me…
- Someone told me…
- I was thinking about…
- I was in New York when…
- The first time I swam…
- My High School friend was…
As you can see from the above – these topics may be discussed to share – but the interviewer question will be edited. You want to be talking, saying these things prior to what you are going to say. You want to lead your talking on new subjects with intros like examples above – so the listener know what you are going to talk about — telling your story from your perspective.
